How we pick
We pick gifts the store can deliver, keep only those whose maker's age fits the list, and decide the order of every list.

What happens to a pick

- Found. Gifts the store can deliver.
- Checked. Ages and safety rules for each list.
- Ordered. By our team. How picks are ordered
- Looked at again. Unavailable or recalled gifts come off our lists.
How picks are ordered
We decide the order of every list, and a person on our team approves it. What readers choose and buy, and store data, are signals we look at, never the deciding factor on their own.
What else we look at
What we can't know yet: whether a gift was loved, and how long it lasted. Store data and what readers choose show what people want, not how it went on the day. Starting after this season, we will ask gift givers how their gifts went, and we will report what they tell us here.
We keep an eye on how often gifts are returned. A gift that comes back much more often than similar ones is reviewed, and taken off our lists if it doesn't hold up.
When a gift's price is unusually high compared with what it usually costs, we keep it off our lists until the price settles.
What readers buy through our links is one of the signals we look at for the order, and it also earns us more. The commission rate is not part of the order.
Most shop buttons are affiliate links: when you buy through one, the store may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Earning a commission is not a requirement to be on a list. Affiliate disclosure
Our tools
Our team picks every gift on our lists. We use software, including AI, to search large product catalogues and to check facts such as ages, prices and stock.

You won't see
- A paid place. Brands and stores can't pay to be on a list or to move up one, and they have no say in what we pick.
- "Tested" or "expert-approved". We don't test products hands-on, and we never say we did.
- Star ratings.
- Made-up people or quotes.
Ages and recalls
When the maker gives an age, a gift never goes on a list for younger children. We check official recall notices every day and take matching gifts off our lists. Please check the age grading and warnings at the store before you buy.
